This Fashionista caught my eye amongst the mass of students walking to class this morning. Upon the dawning of yet another 80 degree day on campus, most students threw on a simple T-shirt and their go-to pair of denim shorts. However, this Fashionista decided to beat the heat in a more fashionable way. I initially thought she was wearing a skirt, but after talking to her, found out it was a pair of shorts. What a perfect piece for walking around campus all day! What really made her outfit though, were her accessories. She paired her black tank with a pair of strappy black sandals then threw on a set of gold bangles. On the opposite wrist, she wore a fun, patterned bracelet. It was beaded black and white and trimmed with a gold chain.
I love how she paired this statement piece with an already statement pair of shorts. The bracelet may have been a statement piece, but it was small and didn’t overpower her shorts. It brought a fun edge to her outfit without being an eyesore. The black beads in the bracelet helped tie together her black tank and sandals as well. In addition, the gold chain trimming the bracelet matched her set of gold bangles and the gold hardware on her sandals perfectly.
The more I talked to this Fashionista, the more I noticed about her outfit. Every piece of the outfit brought something fun to her look, yet it all fit perfectly together. You can try pairing a patterned pair of shorts like hers with a bracelet with a different pattern, or go for a simple pair of shorts with a patterned top and an unexpected necklace – whatever you want to make the look truly your own!
Spotted: Diane Von Furstenberg’s pre-fall 2013 collection exhibits this conflicting-patterns look. Here, Furstenberg brings life to her model’s outfit by placing a yellow and black polka-dotted blouse with a leopard clutch. This clashing of patterns works because the clutch is small enough not to overpower the statement blouse, making the outfit unique and effortlessly modern.
