ACCESSORIES REPORT: Something “Borrowed,” Something Blue

Accessories Report

Buzz about The Great Gatsby remake influenced designers to get in touch with the jazz age by adding a modern twist to the Art Deco period. Rich colors and lavish embellishments are the perfect way to add a touch of the ’20s to your wardrobe.

Sophomore Ellie Meyer is adding a little sparkle to a dreary, gray day with a 1920s inspired sequin skirt. This Fashionista paired her vintage looking piece with a chambray button down to make her outfit both stand out on campus walk and casual enough for the classroom. As I said in my Style Guru Bio, I love the chambray shirt and think it’s an essential for every Fashionista’s closet. My personal favorite is the super light wash, but you can never have too much of a good thing!

Who says sequins are just for New Year’s Eve? Embellished patterns made a huge comeback last year, and are still trending. Look for vintage inspired pieces at stores such as Urban Outfitters, Topshop, Khol’s or even your local thrift shop! Don’t be afraid to embrace the embellished look, adding some sequins to your ensemble can help to brighten up you day. Whether you’re going for coffee on campus or out for a night on the town, borrowing some style inspiration from the Roaring ’20s is sure to make a statement.

Spotted: The Gucci spring 2012 runway show featured some 1920s inspired modern flapper dresses, while chambray made an appearance on the runway in the Marc by Marc Jacobs spring 2013 show.
