Well, it’s official, it is spring in New York City. Away with the wool socks and duck boots and off we go to break out our ankles in our daily looks.
This week I found our Fashionista wandering the FIT campus looking ultra chic in a beautiful spring outfit. Her white coat was what drew me to her, the tailoring of the coat and unique shape is really attractive, especially in the crisp white color. Her outfit was a great take on layering— a collared shirt under a sweater, which is a very popular trend this year, as well as a pair of cropped pants. The navy and white color scheme is a lovely choice for a sunny city day. Her outfit was topped off by a pair of Ray-Ban aviators, a slouchy beanie and a leather backpack.
My favorite part of the outfit is the sneakers. This look with cropped pants and sneakers is very popular this season. Our Fashionista is sporting an amazing pair of Saint Laurent sneakers, but for the frugal college student one has some options at getting this look without breaking the bank. ASOS makes a wonderful pair of sneakers with a leopard print fabric. The always-popular Vans slip on shoes are a great look for dressing up or down, not to mention the amazing varieties the site carries with every finish and color one can imagine. Finally, I am in love with these Via Spiga shoes because of the combination of leather and sneakers makes the shoe unique and a little bit dressy.
A great alternative to slip on sneakers are lace up sneakers. My favorites right now are Nike Roshe Run, Nike Air Max, New Balance, Converse and Superga. These shoes have a bit more sporty vibes but are always great shoes in the city!
The sneaker is a great choice for any outfit, whether the occasion is casual or for a day in class, every Fashionista and Fashionisto needs a pair of these in their spring shoe collection.
My challenge to you this week is to put together a trendy look with your wardrobe that would work with your sneakers. Trying to figure out how to work your winter and summer pieces together to make a spring look can be a fun challenge to anyone at the start of the season. The hardest thing for me is remembering how to be trendy in the season ahead and leaving the frigid winter looks in my memory. This may be a challenge but it is also a great thing, out with the cold and in with the new shoes!
Spotted: Sporty sneakers make their presence known on the Chanel 2014 couture show. The looks with sneakers ranged from skirts to cropped pants, using beautifully elegant and feminine fabrics. Karl Lagerfeld took a few risks with this but the overall reaction was very supportive. Fashionistas around the world rejoice that comfort is chic. And I am sure that every Fashionista would love a pair of Chanel sneakers!
