When I envision the epitome of a well accessorized person, I see simplicity. I like layering multiple accessories, but what I think truly makes a person’s accessories stand out is when they are simple, but thought out. This is not to say it’s not fun to pile on 12 bracelets, two necklaces and a head wrap, but the image portrayed is definitely youthful and bohemian. To me, choosing the perfect understated, yet present accessories is an art; when a Fashionista does it right, she exudes confidence and sophistication.
This week’s Fashionista is a prime example of how extremely simple accessories can become the focal point of an outfit. She sticks to neutral colors and basic silhouettes with black leggings and a white and gray suede motorcycle jacket for the base of her outfit. She draws the eye up to her face with her gorgeous turquoise chocker necklace. The necklace added an elegant pop of color and light, dainty element to the outfit.
I was most struck by her minimalist vintage boots from Guess, which she told me she found at Beacon’s Closet, a trendy thrift store tucked amidst our school buildings on West 13th Street. While wearing the name of a brand so largely on your clothing can sometimes be overly ostentatious, there is something so chic about the unfussy bluntness with which this Fashionista rocks these shoes. The name isn’t tacked on to the shoe to prove its integrity as an authentic Guess product, but functions as the singular decoration and defining trait of her shoes. Neither piece screams “look at me,” but their quiet coolness reads undoubtedly fashionable.
Spotted: A brand that is most famous for utilizing their name as their accessories’ trademark is Moschino. This can be seen is countless of their collections, but most recently in their fall 2014 ready-to-wear collection, featuring their signature name belts, necklaces, bracelets and hats.
