When I saw this Fashionista, one word came to my mind, fierce. Upon a closer look, I also noticed how chic and sophisticated her outfit was. There are so many things I love about this look that it will be hard to condense it into one post.
First of all, she definitely pulled of the monochromatic trend with class. One mistake that people make with this trend is that their outfit is so monochromatic that it looks bland and boring. However, this Fashionista uses a combination of texture by artfully pairing leather with wool and metallics with cotton. These differences in texture are anything but boring making her stand out in the crowd.
A quick style tip for working with different textures is to choose ones that will go well together. Pair glossy black booties with a black suit like this Fashionista has done or my personal favorite is pairing a leather jacket with a chiffon maxi skirt. Mixing two or three different textures will certainly boost your style and make it unique.
The second thing that stands out is her black tote from H&M. As a student, I know how heavy textbooks can weigh. It’s hard to care about style when you have to lug 200 lbs of books around campus. If that’s you, totes are your best friend. The leathery almost animal-like material of this tote makes it sturdy enough to carry around the daily essentials while staying fashionable.
Finally, the best part of this Fashionista’s outfit is her amazing chain-linked statement necklace. For a necklace that size, it is really easy for it to overpower the outfit. In this case, the chain necklace adds an edge to an otherwise professional, ladylike look. The combination of the leather accents, gold top, and metal chains exudes power.
So, this is a call to all the ladies. Don’t be afraid to show your fierce side by adding a major statement necklace or playing around with different textures. Like Beyoncé, the Queen of Pop herself says, “Run the World, Girls!”
Spotted: Chunky chains were seen in different shapes, colors, and variations accenting Chanel’s fall 2013 ready-to-wear collection.
