When you write a blog on accessories every week, it can be a struggle to find people wearing pieces that stand out from what you have already written about. Over the past few months, I have learned to really pay attention to the details of each person’s outfit I walk by on campus in order to find accessories that are both up-to-the-minute and unique. Upon first glance, one can tell that this Fashionista, for example, has great style. Her slouchy sweater, infinity scarf and boot socks are not only the perfect combination of comfy and cute, but they are also on-trend. However, it isn’t until one looks at her hands and sees her rings that you realize just how much of an eye for fashion she really has.
As this Fashionista shows, it is currently popular to wear multiple pieces of the same form of jewelry at once. I am seeing more and more people wearing rings on every finger, stacking bangles up their arm or layering their necklaces. Even Amy Levin, the founder of CollegeFashionista, was wearing multiple knuckle rings when she held a panel at Northwestern last week.
I love statement rings like the rectangle-shaped one with the oval inside of it that this Fashionista is wearing. It is a one-of-a-kind, made by her mom. However, there are plenty of other statement rings out there such as this turquoise one by Stephan & Co. I’m also a huge fan of the knuckle ring, or midi ring, trend. Amy’s rings looked so cool that I was inspired to buy these gold midi ones myself. Try to find a variety of different shapes and sizes and experiment pairing and stacking them together. I love this stackable ring set from Nordstrom and this vintage-inspired set from Forever 21.
Spotted: Striking gold rings in Balenciaga’s spring 2013 ready-to-wear collection. Who knew such small accessories could make such large statements!
