With the latest snowfall and massive drop in temperature, the campus is looking more and more like a snow globe. Instantly, everyone grabs their mismatched fuzzy snow hats and mittens. Yet, to make it through the winter months ahead as the Fashionista or Fashionisto I know you are, accessorizing is key. This week’s Fashionista does justice to animal print with her leopard print scarf. Though animal print is often a hit or miss, it can add much needed uniqueness when it is done right.
This Fashionista pairs her leopard print scarf with dark skinny jeans, a camel colored cable-knit sweater, black vest and brown boots. She stays within the same neutral color palette as her scarf, which adds a very streamlined look. Any Fashionista should stay away from too much animal print or you run the risk of making your outfit seem too busy or tacky. Instead, one should choose one piece of clothing that features animal print and creating the rest of your outfit around it. As I have said time and time again, simplicity is key.
I love featuring animal print through very subtle ways. Pairing animal print booties, such as the Junia Bootie from Nine West, with dark skinny jeans and a playful top is perfect for a night out on the town. To transition from day to night, you can always add a blazer. Mixing gold with animal print is also a combination that is always a winner. This Marc by Marc Jacobs zebra print bangle is a glamorous and playful accessory that you can incorporate in just about any outfit. From the classroom to date night, it will definitely be a conversation starter.
Though some Fashionistas and Fashionistos feel very indifferent about animal print, it is definitely worth experimenting with. Animal print is definitely in and will be a purrr-fect addition to any wardrobe.
Spotted: The Lanvin pre-fall 2013 collection shows that animal print is no longer on the endangered species list in fashion.
