It’s the final countdown. Check-off lists are growing shorter and shorter with just a few minor details left, and everything seems to be falling into place: personal items are almost packed up…room is cleaned (well—it’s getting there) and the only thing that Yale students are focused on at this point is Spring Fling—I mean final exams!
All jokes aside, it’s no secret that final exams can be a source that produces increased stress levels in any college student. These tests can either solidify or destroy a semester of hard work and managing weighted assessments of this sort can be a challenge all in itself. Students have different ways of dealing with end of the semester stress. Most would agree that key factors for success at this time of the year involve surrounding one’s self with a support staff that is characterized by positive energy!
Jewelry designer and philanthropist Carolyn Rafaelian is all too familiar with the concept of positive energy vs negative energy and the idea that emotions affect our thinking. In 2004, she founded the Alex and Ani Company whose mission was to produce bangle bracelets, necklaces, and other jewelry that serve two purposes: “to adorn the body and to enlighten the mind and empower the spirit.” Ten years later, Rafaelian’s thoughts and ideas are still popular and inspiring to men and women alike.
Personally, for me, I’m always drawn toward positive energy as was the case when I spotted this week’s campus model in one of the college courtyards. Her casual ensemble echoed a friendly vibe as she walked toward me wearing a pair of those popular TOMS shoes. While the pink color of her dress certainly was eye catching, it was the comfort of its fit and flare style that caught my eye. Her statement necklace was fun and the tiered design was complementary to the V-shaped neckline of the dress. Looking a little closer, I noted she was also carrying a tote bag over her shoulder. At first it was camouflaged by the color of her varsity inspired sweater but I quickly realized that her oversized bag was enhanced by the large Greek letters proudly displaying the logo for the Pi Beta Phi Sorority—no doubt just one group of great girls on Yale’s campus who support the idea of spreading that positive energy. Furthermore, I noticed she was wearing an Alex and Ani bangle bracelet—now her pleasant disposition (even at this time of the year) all made sense!
Spotted: Bold necklaces are always a great way to make a statement and give positive energy. Lanvin’s fall 2013 ready-to-wear collection gives off good vibes from a layered chain necklace made to read “happy.”
