Coco Chanel is always depicted wearing pearls and if you ask me there is no better role model for elegance than Coco herself. Pearl accessories are easy to come by and also the crème de la crème of accessories so there is absolutely no reason to say no. Everybody knows a woman can never be overdressed so when in doubt add pearls.
I rarely take off my pearl stud earrings because they match everything and always gives my outfit a dressed up, clean and simple appearance. This Fashionista models the same look with her simple strand. Even though she is wearing shorts and a tank adding this simple stand of pearls makes her stand out from the crowd. It gives her outfit a more elegant, “dressed up” appeal. She also uses pearls as a neutral color in her ensemble. When you wear multiple colors like she is, using pearls is a great alternative when you don’t know whether to wear silver or gold jewelry.
There are multiple ways to incorporate pearls into your wardrobe. First, there is the simple strand. I suggest getting both a short strand and a long strand for different occasions. If you are wearing shorts and a tank like this Fashionista the short strand is perfect. However, if you are wearing a little black dress you may choose the long strand to get that Gatsby-esque style. Both are essential! Another necklace you may want to invest in is what I like to call the classic cluster. This means that there are multiple strands in one necklace. I love wearing these under a collared shirt because it is big enough to make a statement and a nice contrast to the otherwise masculine look.
Next, there are the pearl bracelets. You need many for a well-attended arm party! Three or four pearl elastic bracelets are a perfect everyday accessory or a good way to dress up an otherwise simple ensemble. I love matching a few pearl bracelets with my Michael Kors tortuous shell watch. It makes for a casual yet classy look.
My pearly staple as I noted earlier are my stud earrings. However, there are some great statement earrings out there that have pearl accents. I am loving these because you can really make your earrings the focal point of your ensemble. However, I must note the difference between oversized pearl earrings and statement earrings. Oversized can be tittering on the verge of Wilma Flintstone whereas statement earrings give off the more classy chic look. So be cautious when finding the right pearl earrings for you. My classic every day pearls are mid-sized.
Lastly, if pearls are to simple for you liking find an awesome statement necklace that incorporates pearls and maybe other stones. J.Crew and BaubleBar are great shops to find fun and trendy statement necklaces.
