This school year has been all about orange, orange, orange. Virginia, Auburn and Florida fans alike rejoiced as their school’s most vibrant hue hit the runways, making dressing for tailgating much easier and infinitely more fashion-forward. The fabulous news is that our new favorite color is back for spring. But orange, for however beloved it is around here, is not everyone’s best friend. Many have banned it from their closets, deeming it hard to wear. But I don’t buy it, and I’m here to tell you that orange is for everyone.
Case in point is our fabulous red headed Fashionista; if she can make orange work, we all can. The first thing I noticed about her look was of course her fabulous Tory Burch cross-body. She creates maximum impact by setting the shock orange bag up against a neutral, chunky sweater. The little touch of color brightens her look and gives the whole outfit a lift.
For a bolder spring ensemble, pair your orange accessories with other bright shades like turquoise or hot pink for a color blocking effect. If you’re still gun shy, you cannot go wrong keeping it simple with crisp, clean white blouse. Kate Spade has a fabulous patent leather clutch (oh, and it’s over half off at the moment) perfect for going out and hitting the town—and yes, you can even wear it with black. And of course, think beyond the bag! A thin belt, dainty ballet flat or chunky necklace can provide your orange fix in an equally effective capacity.
The most important thing I’ve learned about orange is that while it is for everyone, the same cannot be said for each and every shade of the color. For example, the exceedingly lucky olive-skinned brunettes among us look fabulous in the classic Crayola orange (think Eva Longoria or Padma Lakshmi). However, most of us are at least a few shades lighter and must adjust accordingly. There are more tones of orange than there are actual colors in the rainbow, so experiment with them! Somewhere amongst persimmon, cantaloupe and yellow-orange I promise you will find your perfect match. If only dating were so simple!
