Week two; back at school and the students at Yale University continue to experience the cold and unpleasant weather conditions that have swept the Northeast. Weather authorities have posted winter warnings and advisories, but as with most campuses, it’s business as usual. Students, and professors alike, press on. Classes, meetings and campus activities go uninterrupted. Dealing with Mother Nature’s temper tantrums and mood swings seem to be routine, as fighting her would be an utter mistake!
This week the campus resembled a customary runway promoting the quintessentials of fashion trends in the outerwear industry. The parka and the closely related puffer (and down) jacket appear to be a favorite among college students these days, and with their many variations, why wouldn’t it! They’re a great go-to jacket and offered in many styles for both men and women.
This Fashionista was easily spotted in front of Linsly-Chittenden Hall, home to Yale’s English department. Looking at her winter ensemble, it’s simple to understand just why she stood out.
Her puffer jacket is a beautiful shade of olive, and appears to have knit cuffs that block any entrance for the wind. The side pockets are detailed with leather trim as is the front off-centered zipper. The jacket is topped off with an eye catching and amazing fur trimmed hood in a unique blonde-chestnut color. It truly is the attention grabber for the entire outfit!
Her neck scarf plays peek-a-boo under her zipped fitted jacket and looks as if it could be of a mocha and crème geometric design accented with shades of muted redwood. When I inquire about it, she proudly opens her coat and out falls a neck wrap that acts as much as a statement piece as it does an insulated layer. It is one of the most magnificent oversized scarves that I’ve seen all season. I marvel at the rest of the design and the softness of the fabric. From there, my attention is drawn toward the lettuce edge finish and the way it helps the scarf drape over her sweater and fall almost mid-thigh. The scarf is complemented by a pop of color from our Fashionista’s cranberry jeans, and her choice of over the knee style flat boots is a beautiful display of super leather chic that further accents a long, lean look.
It’s evident from her clothing labels that this Fashionista has great taste in fashion. You don’t, however, have to pay top dollar for clothing to get a top dollar look. You just need a little patience and some time to shop around.
Spotted: Chanel’s fall 2012 ready-to-wear collection got it right when predicting just how receptive the general population would be with accessories of all sorts! They were spot on when it came to how functional and fashionable scarves would be.
