While all of my friends are at home talking about how excited they are to be able to wear jeans and sweaters as fall approaches, I’m lounging by the pool in this 100-degree heat. Personally though, I love the fact that I go to a school where it’s summer all year round, not just because of the warm weather, but because of the fashion.
One of the big summer trends has been, and remains to be, maxi dresses. Maxi dresses are great for every occasion because, with the right accessories, shoes and fabric, you can transform them from casual to a more formal look. As maxi dresses became big in the fashion industry, so did their patterns and prints. While I love patterned maxi dresses just as much as the next girl, this Fashionista caught my eye for a more minimal look.
This Fashionista rocked her back to school look, combining two major trends: the little black dress and the maxi dress. Her jersey knit maxi dress kept her looking more casual and she continued her minimalistic look by wearing woven black and brown gladiators. As far as jewelry goes, she completed her look with a gorgeous vintage flower watch and a simple heart necklace. Through her minimalistic fashion-forward outfit, she made her style look effortless while still looking runway ready.
While this Fashionista leaned towards a more casual look, since she was going to class, this look can easily be dressed out for a night on the town. By simply changing the material to silk, you get to keep the simplicity of the black maxi dress while making it a much more formal look. To complete the look, just add some nice jewelry and you’re ready to hit the town!
Spotted: Ellie Saab’s fall 2013 ready-to-wear collection is filled with chic black pieces, ranging from pant suits to dresses, sporting the fashion-forward look while keeping the trend of minimization.
