Effortless is my number one word to describe southern California fashion. A recent spring break trip to The Golden State revealed that its residents were the perfect eclectic mix of high end designer fashion and street style. A glance to the left might reveal a full Chanel ensemble complete with the classic quilted bag and flats but a check to the right might unveil a look as subtle and chic as this one.
This Fashionista was casually searching through the racks of a nearby thrift store when I spotted her. Immediately I zeroed in on how casually put together she was. Her loose strappy tank top kept the sun warm on her shoulders, but her rolled high waisted jeans kept the chill off her legs. By chill I mean 65 degrees, however. These Californians may know a thing or two about fashion but they certainly don’t know how to brave a winter! The light wash denim contrasts in a classic ’90s fashion with the black of her top and accessories which are what truly elevates this look from casual to chic.
Her shoes were the most interesting to me. This Fashionista pulls off her chunky thick strap sandals by keeping it simple (although a fun way to wear these in a cooler climate could include pastel frilly socks). These flatforms give her the perfect combination of height and walkability. Since this Fashionista was found searching for her new class ready items, a backpack was the perfect way to eliminate a purse but still keep everything handy. A no-frills classic brown leather backpack is the ultimate wear with everything bag.
Effortless really is the name of the game, and a smattering of rings in various widths, heights and designs is a simple way to add jewelry without overdoing it. A classy simple leather watch completes the outfit and keeps this Fashionista from being late to class while on the hunt for the next big thing.
Spotted: This Fashionista’s shoes are reminiscent of the Stella McCartney fall 2014 show where her models rocked the runway in chunky flatform oxfords.
