As summer begins to wind down I find myself trying to wear every item from my summer wardrobe. I love fall and winter as much as the next person but there is something so refreshing about sundresses and sandals! Here in Utah, it doesn’t typically start getting cool until the end of September so finding good transition pieces is key to one’s Utah closet. One staple in my transition wardrobe is a wedge! I love wedges because they can be dressed up or down, and they are easier to walk in than most heels.
This week’s Fashionista knows how to get the most out of her wedge sandals by wearing them with a maxi dress. I’ve found the majority of maxi dresses were made for that small population of women who are 5’ 6”! While dresses can always be hemmed, the look of a maxi dress paired with wedges can give shorter girls the illusion of being tall. This Fashionista decided to pair her striped Calvin Klein maxi dress with a great coral-colored scarf. The scarf gives a great pop of color to the outfit. The jewelry is what gives the dress personality — an intricate cuff, a silver necklace and an antique ring show that this dress has more to offer than just height! To complete this Fashionista’s look, she went with cognac-colored wedges with zippers on the back.
Wedges are, as previously mentioned, a sandal that can do it all! They can be worn with just about anything and give any look an added boost of sophistication while still being fun! If you’re shy about wearing heels, go for a maxi skirt. Maxi skirts or dresses will usually cover up the majority of the shoe but gives passersby a peek at your fabulous shoes. Pair your maxi skirt with a sleeveless chambray shirt tied at the bottom and add a stack of beaded bracelets! For those of you with a more daring side, pair your wedges with jean cut-offs. I’ve always loved this look but I myself haven’t been bold enough to try it! Since so much skin is showing on your bottom half go for a more covered look up top. A flowy chiffon tank top would be the perfect complement to a colorful linen blazer.
