For Georgetown University students, this past week was spring break! Fortunately, I was able to get away from the freezing cold in Washington, D.C. and head down to Florida. It was a refreshing feeling to be able to walk outside without a heavy coat, scarf or boots. Everyone was wearing shorts, tanks and swimsuits! In particular, I saw a good number of bohemian-styled Fashionistas. The bohemian style is carefree; it embraces romanticism and individual personality. And in the world of boho-chic, it’s all about accessories. Accessories are what really make the look unique.
The Fashionista I spotted while on spring break definitely embraces the bohemian style. She is wearing a casual, black maxi dress that is perfect for everyday wear or as a cover-up at the beach. She combines it with a cool, fringed kimono and a pair of comfy sneakers. The piece that I loved the most was her stone necklace. When it comes to bohemian jewelry, the more unique, the better. This Fashionista told me she found her necklace at a local flea market, which is a great place to find something one of a kind!
For boho style similar to this Fashionista, look for jewelry made from natural elements like wood, coral, turquoise, feathers or suede. A statement necklace is great either on its own or as a layering piece that adds style to an otherwise bland outfit. Wood and metal bangles always look fabulous and will always be in style. Also, look for cool cuffs that rest on your forearm or even your bicep. Overall, don’t worry about everything being perfect. If you love it, wear it. That’s the bohemian way!
Spotted: Find inspiration in Donna Karan’s spring 2014 ready-to-wear collection. It is full of wooden necklaces and bohemian style.
