A trend that has been getting a lot of attention lately is the idea of transparency. It was used a lot in fall 2014 collections — from clothes to accessories and even in furniture design. Miu Miu took full advantage of this trend from their amazing coats to the see-through shoes with the mod-inspired fall collection. Other designers like Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana and Michael Kors have hopped on this trend. My personal favorite use of this trend is through accessories, of course, particularly the bags. It allows the interior of the bags, whether it’s awesome lining or your personal belongings, to be showcased in a way that wasn’t possible before. Transparency shows off the design from the outside to the inside. It allows designers to come up with whimsical bag ideas since they can now use hard plastics. It’s amazing what they have come up with.
This Fashionista has been toting around her stuff around campus in a transparent bag lately. These bags are not flashy like some other styles can be with bright colors or prints (even though they come in fun colors and prints). It’s an interesting way to show off your own stuff like cool books or a fun wallet. Wildfox Couture has an all-white tote that would be great for the summer or this one from Marc by Marc Jacobs is great for a printed one. If you’re looking for a smaller bag, NASTY GAL has a cute clutch for when you don’t need a lot.
She kept the rest of her outfit simple and comfy in a T-shirt and shorts, keeping the focus on her bag. The all-white sneakers are also a huge hit in street style, which is something I still like. I’m always looking for fresh takes on this popular trend. ASOS has a pair that ties back in to transparency with sheer sides, giving a simple sporty shoe a new twist. This goes to show how many different ways transparency can be used.
If you still aren’t sold on this trend, watch the Miu Miu fall 2014 collection and try not to fall in love with the colorful see-through jackets (it’ll be hard).
Spotted: Simone Rocha’s spring 2013 collection used structured clear bags with a scalloped trim to accessorize the line.
