One of my favorite things I look for in a Fashionista can be the most basic or complex of accessories: their shoes. What type of shoe, what pattern, color, texture; the possibilities are endless. Not only are shoes a key component to any outfit, but matching and coordinating them with the entire ensemble is where it gets tricky.
The Fashionista presented above chose to sport her Dolce Vita leopard print shoes to make her first week back statement a bold one. This specific pair of leopard print shoes are from Free People, but this oxford-type style can be found nearly everywhere. Oxfords first appeared in Scotland and Ireland and traditionally were made of leather, with a very plain design. Now-a-days they are available in countless materials and styles and are seen as formal and informal, hence this Fashionista’s approach at both. I ran into her on her way from work to class and it is clear she used her shoes as a versatile part of her outfit for this major transition in environments.
Another key part of her outfit, besides the finishing touches of Ray-Ban sunglasses, H&M rings, the “J” watch and the beyond cute clutch, is the leather skirt. To me, leather and animal prints go hand in hand and, when done correctly, can complement each other greatly. With that being said, this skater style skirt that the Fashionista is wearing does exactly that. A leather clothing item is yet another statement piece, but don’t let that factor intimidate you. Anyone can pull off leather, it just has to be worn in the right setting and paired with the proper complimentary accessories. This fall, be daring, take a risk, try textures and prints you normally would not and dress from toe to head because your shoes say more about the outfit than you may realize.
Spotted: In the pre-fall guide, one of the season’s top trends, “Animal Collective” by Lanvin, leopard print has earned the status of “the new neutral.” So when you want to throw on those boring neutrals, try some leopard print instead!
