Before I moved into the Austin area I had never heard anything specific about it. I only knew it was the capital of Texas and home to the Longhorns. So when I first visited this amazing city it was akin to Harry Potter entering Diagon Alley. Men riding unicycles in thongs, street art in every corner, homeless people with pet ducks, mustachios straight out of the 1890s; the list could go on forever. I had never witnessed such an amazing city. Perhaps it was the thrill of living on my own and experiencing an amazing new city, but since then, Austin has my heart.
I must clarify that though this city is home to some amazing Fashionistos, it is not a place on the forefront of fashion. Everyone here has their own particular style and will absorb trends from bigger cities and make it their own. With the Texas heat and long distances, here we must always rely on practicality. This Fashionista demonstrates the essence of stylish Austenites: comfortable but with downtown edge.
Austin is really into the outdoors, so to live here it is quite necessary to always have comfortable footwear. Texas is known for wearing cowboy boots in the heat and that has certainly translated into the more modern footwear.
This Fashionista at a glance is simply wearing a tee and shorts but with the power of accessories has made this a trendier outfit. Her classic Dooney & Burke satchel took it up a notch. Cop one for yourself like this one that is classic style on eBay, it will never go out of style and will last a lifetime. A colorful bauble necklace will add a dash of attitude to a simple outfit. J.Crew carries in all styles for any occasion but for this Style Guru, this is the Holy Grail of all bauble necklaces; perfect for casual wear, silver or gold and formal wear. Stand out from the crowd taking your standard hiking boots and pairing them with your everyday outfits. Simply choose a standard color to match with your closet and you will soon be ready to go from the hiking trail to the local dive bar. ASOS carries a divine pair that is perfect for all your needs.
This is, after all, Austin, Texas.
Spotted: Personally, I take more inspiration from menswear runways. With that in mind Hermès fall 2013 pairing of hiking boots and long pea-coats show the multifaceted value of these boots.
