ACCESSORIES REPORT: It’s In The Cap

Accessories Report

Finals week is my favorite time of the semester to style stalk on campus. There is such a juxtaposition of fashion going on. People are either dressed nicer than they’ve ever been before because they have a final presentation or they are wearing actual pajamas to their 7 a.m. exam. In all of the chaos, I found this Fashionisto in a printed button-up, crisp slacks and leather shoes. After all, the best part of a presentation is how you present yourself.

I’m not exactly sure when they caught on, but I’ve noticed that most college guys have finally discovered that there is diversity in pants beyond khakis. Thank goodness for this revelation because khakis are everything that I detested in my choice of boys in middle school and even high school. Maybe that’s truly what distinguishes boys from men: their willingness to stray away from the khaki comfort zone and venture into slacks and denim. This Fashionisto looked sharp and put together in his tailored black slacks. He added a printed button-up to add a bit of dimension which caught my eye right away.

With such a busy shirt, he kept it simple on the accessories but he did happen to have the ultimate finals week accessory on hand though: his graduation cap. After four years of lectures, exams and presentations, nothing feels better than walking across a stage in front of thousands of people wearing a cap and gown. From a Style Guru point of view, would it have killed the creator of the cap and gown to create something a bit more trendy though? Anyways, here’s to graduation, here’s to pants that aren’t khakis and most importantly, here’s to the future.

Spotted: Alexander Wang’s fall 2014 ready-to-wear collection is full of menswear-inspired pieces   that are suitable for the office. My advice: don’t be afraid to add a little flair and color into your business wardrobe. You wouldn’t want to blend in with everyone else.
