ACCESSORIES REPORT: It’s Always Sunny In California

Accessories Report

Whether bought from a street vendor, the mall or a sophisticated little boutique — every Fashionista/o has her or his favorite pair of sunglasses. It doesn’t matter if they’re being worn for practicality or as a statement maker; sunglasses are a necessity for every trendy individual.

Sunglasses are making more and more appearances on the faces of students in Davis, California, this warm January. The different styles of these sunnies range from the classic Ray-Ban Wayfarers to the loud and proud Prada Minimal Baroque. This Fashionista gracefully accepted the challenge that the awkwardness of in-between seasons presents. Her monochromatic ensemble of a chunky silver chain necklace, dark heather gray skater dress, oversized cardigan, sheer tights, thigh-high socks and ankle boots all blend together to make an outfit perfect for a chilly winter day.

However, it is the addition of her other pieces that make her outfit come to life and begin the transition to spring. Her skinny bracelets add a fun pop of color when peeking out from underneath her cardigan sleeve, and her messy bun contributes just the right touch of “I’m a busy student, but I still manage to look chic.” The classic red lip she sports also keeps her monochromatic outfit from being too blah. Above all else, it was her modern, D-frame sunglasses that drew me in to take a second look at this trendy Fashionista.

The D-frame sunglasses are what I like to consider the bolder, more glamorous older sister of the classic wayfarers. Made most popular from Audrey Hepburn’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s, these sunnies have continued to make a comeback as a vintage style. Wearing a pair of these mocha-colored D-frames, this Fashionista successfully blended old with new thanks to the loud graphics on her bodice.

Whether spring is blooming its way into your lives a bit earlier than usual, or it’s still the dead of winter in your city, just remember that adding a pair of statement-making sunglasses will always help in transitioning your ensembles from winter to spring!
