A woman’s handbag holds the mysteries of the world. It’s my life conveniently located in one chic accessory (preferably leather with many pockets). Satchels have been a hit on the runway and off the runway for several seasons now and it doesn’t look like they are going anywhere anytime soon! Why would they? The satchel is a timeless accessory that can be worn with a multitude of styles. The best thing about satchels is their wide range of sizes, the minimalist and the over-packer can find harmony in the same handbag.
This week’s Fashionista knows how to work a satchel that is cross-bodied and features a bold print. To style her satchel she went for rolled cut-off denim shorts in a dark wash and a striped tank top to contrast the red tweed of her satchel. For shoes, this Fashionista chose muted gray cheetah TOMS giving the outfit a relaxed feeling. For added femininity, she wears a small silver necklace with her initial — I love that touch of individuality!
With school coming closer and closer, a satchel is the perfect accessory to add to your closet, it can be big enough to hold all of your school necessities! One of my personal favorite ways to style a satchel would be what I call “laid-back lux.” A stiff pair of dark wash jeans in your favorite fit is a great place to start (I’m really loving super flare jeans à la Rachel Zoe). Then, layer a comfortable tank under a cozy cardigan. The cardigan should fit loosely and be in a pattern. I’m still loving Aztec prints! For fun, I would add a floppy hat. It gives the look a more bohemian feel and only adds to the look. Grab your satchel and you’re ready to take on the world! Satchels also look wonderful with structured looks. A fitted sheath with gold jewelry and a camel-colored satchel would be the perfect outfit to wear for that dream internship you’ve been coveting.
Spotted: Satchels were the go-to accessory on the Just Cavalli pre-fall 2013 runway show. Topped off with dark lips and killer heels, these satchels were anything but ordinary!
