Accessories Report

Living in the capital region of New York, it is common to wear the same outerwear day after day. I affectionately call this area of my home state, “The Vortex.” From high winds to heavy snow, it really feels like winter. Despite the inclement weather, most days are incredibly beautiful and truly embody what it means to go to school on the East Coast. Best of all, those are the days in which students shed some layers and highlight their personal style.

Everything about this Fashionista’s bright yet basic outfit worked as winter wear. A self-described “cozy girl,” this Fashionista strives to keep her ensembles simple and comfortable with just a little bit of flair. Well, she clearly succeeded. My eye was instantly drawn to the way she layered from top to bottom. The down vest is practical without sacrificing style. It is the perfect way to stay warm while still looking put together. Among this Fashionista’s many layers was a knitted black beanie, a blue flannel and dark wash jeans. She was clearly dressed for a full day on her feet.

At this point in the winter season, it should come as no surprise that beanies are having a big fashion moment. The best part about the beanie trend is the variety. Beanies come in many colors, sizes and styles. Neonjewel-encrusted or even one with a pom-pom: the sky is the limit. This Fashionista’s beanie is especially trendy because it is oversized and knitted. The basic color complements the bold colored button-down flannel, adding just the right amount of edge.

Along with the practical and trendy beanie, this Fashionista sports unique silver jewelry. “When it comes to jewelry, these pieces are my go-to picks,” explained the Fashionista. Her simple and thin earrings coupled with her very own “arm party” of silver bracelets were the perfect accents for the overall look. However, the centerpiece was definitely her wooden and silver elephant necklace. This unique necklace rests simply among the layered ensemble and complemented this Fashionista’s overall wintertime look.

The Fashionista topped off her winter wear with a sturdy pair of brown clogs. Not only are these shoes reliable in fickle weather, but they are also exceptionally comfortable.

If you find yourself in a sartorial rut during the winter months, try adding a beanie or a down vest for layering. Either option adds a little something extra to any outfit.
