It might seem like an old school material, and maybe it is. Denim has been around for a while and has made its way into just about every kind of clothing item and accessory you can think of. Well, maybe not everything you can think of; I have yet to come across any denim sunglasses. Although not all denim inspired pieces are things we would want to wear or even own, some of these jean transformations are actually quite cute. One of these items in particular is shown on this week’s Fashionista.
I saw this fashionable chick strutting her stuff down Lowry Mall the other day when there was a break in the rain. Her outfit stuck out to me immediately against the thick clouds and black rain jackets. She took a risk wearing a light teal maxi dress with a denim vest as opposed to choosing a black maxi dress, and it definitely works. This Fashionista’s outfit was a breath of fresh air and got me thinking about summer. I love how her denim vest isn’t just a regular medium wash denim but kind of faded and dyed in some areas. Those details put a unique spin on the piece and allow her individual style to come through.
My other report about vests talks about the accessory being worn as a layering piece for days when the weather can’t make up its mind. Although denim vests can definitely be used for that kind of situation, I think they add a layer of style instead. Adding a denim vest to your outfit can change the look from classic to hipster, or from fancy to casual. Think of a flowy hot pink skirt and a graphic tank top tucked in. Cute and girly. Now, slip on your denim vest and the look is less dainty and more daring.
Spotted: Some crazy but cool looking denim-like vests were seen on Proenza Schouler‘s spring 2013 ready-to-wear runway.
