Along with sunny afternoons and a great excuse to buy a new pair of sunglasses, summer also brings a feeling of living carefree. This laid back feeling of summer has now found its way in fashion. Trends like oversized sun hats and fringe vests have had Fashionistas everywhere tapping in to their chilled-out inner lover child. With these hippie inspired looks popping up everywhere it is no surprise that we are now appropriately rocking flower headbands.
When I first saw this trend, I thought it was only something a hipster extraordinaire could pull off. However, I was totally wrong. Even though this trend got its start at outdoor music festivals, it has totally been adopted in to fashion everywhere. High-end designer Diane von Furstenberg created a whole collection involving the trend. Her looks consisted of polished flowy tops paired with large flower headbands that compliment the colors in the outfits.
The great thing about this trend is it can really go in whatever direction you want. My favorite way to wear the look is on the simpler side. I like to pair a daintier looking flower crown with a printed sundress and neutral colored sandals. Because the headband is a statement on it own keeping the outfit simple helps avoid overwhelming the look. If you are more of a daring Fashionista though, try wearing a headband that has more volume to it. There are plenty of options that are made with bright colors and large flowers- perfect if you want to go all out with the trend.
Our Fashionista embraced the more polished side of this trend. She paired her minimal white flower headband with a chiffon dress, gold belt and turquois flats. Her headband coordinated with her gold accessories and added to the over all feminine feel of the look. By choosing a headband with smaller flowers she makes her outfit look cohesive. A good tip about this trend is to pick either your outfit or your headband to play up. This way you can create a focal point and also avoid over doing the look. After all its about looking hippie-chic, not like an actual hippie.
Just when I thought this trend couldn’t get any better, it totally does. Flower head bands are super easy to find. ASOS has nearly every option a flower loving Fashionista could want. My favorite is a dainty white one that looks similar to what our Fashionista is wearing. Forever 21 also has some great choices, including a large bright pink option. So whether you decide to go all out with this trend or keep it simple embrace your inner love child and rock a flower headband.
