Sportswear is a rather underwhelmed subcategory of the fashion world. When you think of a well-dressed lady you normally associate her with a classic dress, heels and a purse. Crush that historical sentiment and you have the 21st century woman who wears whatever, whenever.
Most of my articles fit into a general category. I love a dapper male and a vintage, thrifty woman but I always glaze over the great Nike and Adidas outfits I see on campus. This Fashionista reminded me of all the fresh threads Nike cranks out season after season. This bright orange windbreaker caught my attention and I immediately could see it in a large variety of outfits. One could easily throw it over a stark white mini dress and black sneaker wedges for a DJ or electronic vibe, for example.
Tommy Ton, a Canadian photographer known for his blog Jak & Jil, captures guests to and from fashion shows. In this particular shot from the recent Pitti Uomo show in Florence he captured one man’s combination of bright Nike Frees and a pair of floral pants. While sneakers and jeans are a horrendous “no,” sneakers and pants are a fabulous “yes.” Here is an example of Nike killing it with an edgy all-black leather ensemble. Eccentric and somehow incredibly classy I have found myself drawn into this world of high fashion athleticism.
The days you feel lazy and don’t want to wear that cute, but slightly uncomfortable dress, opt instead for a smart gym outfit. At least then you have some motivation to hit the gym after lecture.
Spotted: I still can’t forget this crisp white running shell from the spring 2009 ready-to-wear line Stella McCartney did for adidas.
