A walking smorgasbord of amazing accessories is how I would describe her. Dressed head to toe in a various collection of adornments, this Fashionista looked just like a Harajuku girl walking the streets of Melbourne. Of all her various Japanese-inspired pieces (from her printed shirt to those amazing Lolita-like flatforms), what caught my eye first and foremost (and what nearly made me faint with delight) was that she was wearing a flower crown. And not just any flower crown—this Fashionista was wearing one of my designs!
If you’ve been following my posts on CollegeFashionista for a while, then you’ll know that I make my own floral headpieces for my Etsy shop, CrownedByFlowers. To see one of my crowns brought to life by this stunning Fashionista was so rewarding and gave me a serious dose of the warm and fuzzies. Amazing coincidences aside, this Fashionista was also rocking quite the assortment of accessories, and I found myself drawn to her kooky charm necklace.
Have you ever seen anything like it? I certainly hadn’t, but I loved its quirkiness and downright randomness! It definitely took the term statement necklace to a completely new level and would be a fabulous conversation piece. It was just so unique and it suited this Fashionista’s style to a T: daring, wonderfully bold and just so, so cool.
For Fashionistas and Fashionistos who are in as much awe of her necklace as I am, a piece like this is actually pretty simple to DIY. All you need is a chunky chain necklace and a range of charms that you can find online. Try searching for Japanese dollhouse charms on Etsy for cute ones like this Fashionista’s, and then just use wire clamps to attach them to the necklace in whatever arrangement you like. It’s so easy, and you’ll have the only one in the world.
Other great necklace ideas that make loud, fun statement pieces are those that have a picture-style pendant, like this hipster-appropriate bicycle necklace. Or tap into your inner feline lover with this Cat Lady design, a hilarious take on the popular word-style necklaces.
Spotted: Moschino’s spring ready-to-wear 2014 collection featured a statement necklace that kind of made me hungry. The piece was shown with just one look, but it was definitely memorable as it was a pearl necklace with a life-sized croissant pendant! Talk about delish.
