We are all well and truly aware the fall has arrived, especially around the fashion world. As the weeks slip by, college regains its regular familiarity with ease and, just as summer’s vivid escapade and adventures drift to the furthest recesses of holiday reminisces, so too are it’s brightest florals and palest pastels resigned once again to their position at the backs of our closets. All around the trees have taken on a brief, new lease of life with a sudden rainbow of rust and amber leaves, while on streets around similar and catwalks across the cities, fashion follows suit.
Gold has always been a major player in the accessories field, overshadowing its paler, silver sister with its demands due attention and praise. Something about the current climate, however, and its vibrant russet palette, seem perfectly positioned to act as gold’s ideal pedestal and this year, gold has definitely been centre stage. This Fashonista is a testament to both the trend and her surroundings and her sleek, chic approach should definitely be noted. Her accessories are minimal and complementary of one another, both nodding to and simultaneously surpassing autumn’s latest one session. (The Michael Kors watch and Juicy Couture charm bracelet being two particularly timeless pieces.) As for the rest of her ensemble, she allows it to sit back and let the gold shine, although her coloured jeans are an enviably clever trick to enhance and build on fall’s most fabulous shades. Sometimes, with something so over the top and traditionally associated with grandeur as gold, simplicity is key and this girl has got it in droves.
Fashionista’s need look no further for confirmation of this trend than Vogue icon, Carrine Roitfeld’s, Canne based collaboration with AmFAR, in the form of the aptly named ‘Ultimate Gold Collection.’ On a slightly less dramatic and venerable scale, you can always look to the inimitable Marc Jacobs, who’s been producing beautifully chunky pieces of bronze and gold since before I could spell couture. Make like the cream of the crop and swap last season’s sprinkly of icy gems for something a little more luxuriously golden.
