As we begin the month of December, long gone are the days that the sun stays out past 4:45 in the afternoon, and the sun warms up New York City above a beautiful 45 degrees. We New Yorkers welcome the beautiful cool air with open arms and warm coats. This weeks Fashionista chose a beautiful dyed shearling coat to add to her outfit, a beautiful statement that I could not resist posting about.
This fall and winter we are seeing a lot more fur and wool coats, faux and real. Fur is a great accessory on any piece of outerwear, most popularly in jackets and vests. Recently we have seen a lot of fur dyed to some interesting colors, like the magenta our Fashionista wears or beautifully saturated blues and greens. Any color of the rainbow, they most likely have in fur.
As the debate over fur is a huge conflict in the fashion industry many designers have vowed not to use animal products in their lines, causing the “vegan fur” and “vegan leather” trends to be huge recently. No matter the side of the moral conflict that you are on, it is undeniable that the beauty in these pieces is one of a kind weather faux or natural and the faux fur allows for us college students to afford such beautiful garments.
My advice to you this week is to add some fun fur textures to your late fall look, through a fun faux fur collar, a shearling vest or a dyed fur jacket. Accessorize your outfit to your personal style and stay a little warmer with the new textures.
Spotted: Beautiful dyed furs were spotted on the Versus Versace fall 2013 ready-to-wear runway. The line had many different looks with lots of saturated colors in their outerwear pieces.
