One of my favorite aspects about being a Style Guru thus far has been seeing how unique the personal style of every Fashionista/o is and learning what elements influence their outfit choices. From my experience, a basic pants palette that many guys have in their wardrobes consists of navy, tan, black and gray slacks. While some may think that it’s best to stick with neutral shades on bottom as they will be able to match just about anything you would wear on top, this is not necessarily the case. Adhering to the basic color wheel isn’t going to make you shine among a crowd.
Over the last few seasons, Fashionistos have been extending their reach beyond drab shades and strutting their stuff in colored pants, and who can blame them? With a standout pair of trousers, the remainder of an outfit can be thrown together effortlessly. Investing in a pair of brightly hued slacks is a wise purchase. They look great alongside almost anything in your existing wardrobe and can easily create a striking look. Bearing this in mind, it comes as no surprise that Pantone has announced emerald green as the color of the year. By sporting this lively and radiant shade on bottom, you can opt for subdued pieces on top, such as this Fashionisto did with a simple white oxford button-down shirt, like this one by Topman. Add a gray cardigan and Clark’s desert boots for an instant winning ensemble.
The accessories that this stylish student chose complete the look and of them, the collegiate style tie is the pièce de résistance. For a similar look, check out this tie by Jil Sander. When worn with patterned socks, a messenger bag in the same tan shade as his boots and sunglasses to protect his eyes from the bright sunshine, this makes for a clean and preppy outfit.
A pair of colored pants is a viable option for both casual every day wear and slightly dressier occasions. If you are interested in trying this trend, summer is a great time to begin. Look for some in a hue that you enjoy and will want to continue wearing into the fall season, such as these stretch twill pants by American Apparel that are available in a wide array of colors.
