When I spotted this Fashionista traversing the sleet and snow covering our campus, I was impressed by her choice of footwear. Eschewing the usual snow boot selections, such as UGG or L.L.Bean boots often spotted around campus, she sported modern day lace-up combat boots, which complemented her tough, yet cool monochromatic winter color palette.
Adding to the cool element of her chic ’90s grunge look, this Fashionista opted to tie up her laces mid-boot, which works especially given the simple silhouette of her skinny black pants. Combat boots are a great transitional and versatile wardrobe item — they can take you from season to season, and work well with utilitarian looks, such as this Fashionista’s as they do paired with a bohemian sundress and long cardigan.
This Fashionista’s glowing skin and long wavy chestnut hair also added to her appearance by creating a pared down beauty look that is in the spirit of minimalism, yet adds a femininity that softens her outfit. Her makeup also demonstrates that with any simple beauty routine, the focus should be on your skin especially in the winter months when freezing temperatures outside and dry artificial heat inside can wreck havoc on your largest and most visible organ!
Matiko’s Noah lace-up boots put a fun refined twist on the combat look with a slightly longer length and two-buckle details at the top while Dr. Martens offers their classic original style combat boot as well as fun new twists on their design.
Spotted: Various versions of the combat boot were found in Hedi Slimane’s grunge chic Saint Laurent fall 2013 ready-to-wear collection.
