The other day, I caught this Fashionista red-handed, literally. She was looking fabulous and cozy in her adorable cold weather gear, and her vibrant red gloves stood out to me.
Now that we’ve had a few snowfalls in Dayton this month, Fashionistas all over campus are bundling up in winter wear to battle the ice-cold temperatures. Typically, I see Fashionistas wearing long black puffy North Face coats with black cotton knitted gloves and chunky cream-colored infinity scarves. However, this particular Fashionista went against the norm by showing off her cable knit cardigan, plaid fleece scarf and trendy red leather gloves.
Cable knit sweaters are perfect for this time of year — they’re fashionable, comfortable and warm. You can never go wrong with a classic cream color to easily pair with casual denim, dressy khakis or even a pair of basic black leggings. This Fashionista did just that, only one better. She paired a cream Polo Ralph Lauren cable knit cardigan with black jeggings, rather than a more common Fashionista’s choice of leggings. Jeggings are a combination of jeans and leggings, hence the name. In an effort to resolve the long withstanding debate over whether leggings should be considered pants, fashion designers came out with jeggings as a sufficient substitute. Contrary to popular belief about leggings, jeggings actually are pants and will keep you warmer in the late fall/early winter months.
Along with her chic and contemporary black jeggings, this Fashionista also kept warm and up to date with a pair of black Bailey Button UGGs. The Bailey Button style boot is basically an enhancement of the Classic Short style, with fur exposed on the top and side of the boot. The newer design also features a wooden UGG logo button on the outer side of the boot.
Clearly, the main attraction in this Fashionista’s outfit is her red leather gloves. Leather is the ideal material for a pair of gloves, as it will be sure to keep your hands warm and dry, unlike a pair of cotton knitted gloves. The vivid red color of this Fashionista’s gloves stands out from the crowd’s more common black glove. I love this Fashionista’s scarf choice; the red color in the plaid pattern complements her red leather gloves. Her plaid fleece scarf also creates a lovely contrast with her cable knit cardigan, and is the finishing touch to her wintry ensemble.
In a fashion context, it is perfectly acceptable to be caught red-handed, my fellow Fashionistas! Stay warm and dry this season with your own pair of red leather gloves like this Fashionista’s. Keep your eyes open, because you’ll be sure to set the next trend around your college campus!
