Baseball caps of the 1990s have resurfaced and they are edgier than ever. I can’t even count how many designers in the last few seasons have given new identity to the classic conservative baseball cap for both women and men’s fashions. High fashion brands have made the all-American cap a lot more trendy and mainstream with the huge influence on sport and street wear. Normally a woman’s savior on a bad hair day, baseball caps are now that must have eye catching accessory. In addition to classic styles like your dad or boyfriend’s favorite sports team, you can find baseball caps in flirty florals and prints to chic leathers. You can’t lose this season trying out this trend. The best part is the combinations are endless when creating the perfect look to rock this accessory. These caps are captivating every style from sporty to more sophisticated by contrasting it with tailored pants and jackets.
I am obsessed with this trend. Ever since I saw sporty caps during Paris Fashion Week I’ve been on the hunt to find Fashionista/os that capture this trend. The Fashionisto I spotted made my wish come true — twice — by wearing this Obey cap one day and a floral print cap the next day. The aesthetic of his outfit was a great combination of sporty and urban which is definitely what high street designers are doing for fall 2013. His choice of a distressed slimmer fit jean, short-sleeve graphic shirt and jean jacket with cool patch work detail complemented his cap quite well. I liked the pop of red on top of the hat, pairing nicely with his more neutral color palette. This Fashionisto gave the trend a little adolescent feel by turning it backwards, a nice touch.
From your favorite sports team or brand to a flirty print, a cap adds a little personality to your look. Leather has to be one of my absolute favorites, especially when paired with playful prints and patterns for spring. Baseball caps has been staple accessory for Fashionistos for a while now so I’m anxious to see edgier reinventions of the cap with more refined colors and innovative looks.
Spotted: Kenzo Spring 2012 collection is ideal for looks that can be worn straight off the runway and on to the streets with this cap trend.
