I’ve seen more and more Fashionistas sporting hats lately, and I must say, I am loving it! I don’t know if it was Kate Middleton’s fancy headwear that sparked this trend or Lady Gaga’s costume toppers, but this trend has definitely taken off. As long as the sun is shining, they are here to stay!
As a fair-skinned girl myself, spending the day outdoors can seem like a daylong hunt for shade. A nasty sunburn can distract from any outfit, no matter how fabulous. A hat is the perfect way to protect your skin without sacrificing your look. There is certainly something to be said for an accessory that is not only fashionable, but practical as well. Save the impracticality for your shoe collection.
This Fashionista’s cloche hat kept her out of the sun and in style, but that is only one of the several types of hats that are making their way from the runway to the streets. Fedoras and sunhats may have already crept into your closet, but this summer, you may want to combine the two shapes and try a panama hat like this one from NASTY GAL. It goes with just about any summer look and gives the perfect amount of coverage. If you are spending long days at the pool, you can count on this floppy hat from Nordstrom to make a poolside statement. Don’t let the color intimidate you; it will set you apart from the rest!
As far as I’m concerned, hats do much more than camouflage an unfortunate hair day. They give an outfit a feminine touch and remind us of why we required all of our elementary school friends to wear little hats to our tea parties — or was that just me?
