The weather in D.C. has been far from uplifting this week, but today the rain graciously subsided, eliciting a resounding sigh of relief from Fashionistas campus-wide. After days of being forced to forgo certain stylish ensembles in a desperate attempt to stay dry, hoods were removed and rain boots were kicked off at the first sight of a puddle-less quad. When getting dressed on a rainy day it can be difficult to accessorize with much more than an umbrella, so this Fashionista took advantage of the dry sky by rocking some big gold hoops.
When people think accessories, they often think jewelry. Jewelry, in various forms, has been a style staple for tens of thousands of years. I have always found jewelry, whether it is a necklace, a ring, a bracelet, earrings or any of the many varieties that exist, as one of the most interesting departments for outfit adornment. One piece of jewelry can have a big impact and bold baubles are the perfect way to add a unique flair to your outfit.
What I find so fascinating about jewelry is its ability to completely transform a look. A basic shift dress can be taken from class to an upscale dinner with a simple jewelry swap. You could use a little something extra for class by adding some bangles, a statement choker or some stud earrings. For night, mix things up with chandelier earrings and your most elegant necklace or some cocktail rings.
This Fashionista’s bold hoops are one of this season’s hottest trends and she executed them flawlessly. A beautiful sheer-sleeved blouse, high-waisted shorts and black tights (let’s not forget the great pop of color on the belt and lips) were tied together with a pair of gold hoops and a gold-chained purse. This is a great example of how accessories, especially jewelry, can really complete a look.
To be completely honest, I have a terrible habit of forgetting about earrings when it comes to accessorizing. I now realize what a shame it is that I’ve spent so much time neglecting such a wonderful opportunity to make a statement. I’m so glad this Fashionista reminded me what a great addition earrings can be. Maybe, I’ll even try rocking some hoops of my own.
