Okay, I’ll admit it: like many other girls that I see on campus, I have an obsession with dressing in all black. I didn’t realize it until one day, I wore a yellow cable knit sweater to meet with a friend and he told me that he didn’t recognize me because I was actually wearing colour! All black is my go-to because it always looks pulled together for day or night and it’s easy to feel chic when I’m in a rush for my early morning classes. For anyone that can relate to my obsession with black clothing, this Fashionista’s look is a lesson on how to slowly introduce colour into our lives.
The base of her outfit is black but the beige panels on her cardigan and her great oxblood toque make her look more eye-catching. The more daring you are feeling, switch out the dark colours of the cardigan for a more bright option or even a unique pattern. You can wear the toque in this same outfit without the cardigan for a more grungy, Kylie Jenner-esque look.
A big black bag like this Fashionista’s is key to surviving long days on campus. Although a black bag is super easy to match with any outfit, experiment with a pop of red or any other great handbag colour to make your outfit speak for your personality. If you’re not feeling up to sporting high heeled boots for day, try out a similar pair with gold accents and a flat heel.
Why I loved this Fashionista’s outfit so much is because it’s so versatile and easy to adapt to anyone’s personal style. I hope that you can find a way to adapt this outfit to your own personal style and I hope that anyone that’s like me can slowly pull themselves out of their all-black everything daily uniform.
Spotted: Ralph Lauren’s spring 2014 ready-to-wear show featured an all black outfit with a black tote bag and a chic black hat that reminded me of this look.
