Accessories Report

Who doesn’t love a good beanie? I have recently been obsessed with wearing a beanie on good and bad hair days. For some, beanies are more of a last minute item to throw on when you’re having one of those days that not even a top knot could fix. But the myth that beanies are only associated with a bad hair day is no more, as they truly have become their own trend. They can range from the classic everyday colours to bright neons. I have yet to venture in to the bright neons, as I am currently experimenting with pastel accessories.

I spotted this Fashionista, who encapsulates the beanie trend perfectly. She paired her salt-and-pepper beanie with black skinny jeans, a gray oversized sweater and a thrifted army jacket (yay for vintage items). As for accessories, she kept it comfortable and casual, sporting a pair of worn in black lace-ups, a beige circle scarf and a shoulder bag. This ensemble is great for running errands. You can’t go wrong with styling a beanie. From a casual ensemble, like this Fashionista’s, to a party dress and a trench coat, a beanie is the perfect accessory. If you want to look a little extra glam on your not-so-glamorous days, my secret is throwing on a fab pair of sunglasses and a bright lipstick colour. You could have just rolled out of bed and no one would even know the difference!

The pro of beanies is that they come in so many shapes, sizes, patterns and colours that can be worn all year round. In the crazy Toronto weather, beanies are more of an essential item than a fashion statement, but hey, who says you can’t have both? Recently, I have seen stars such as Kylie Jenner, Cara Delevigne and Rihanna all sporting beanies in a variety of styles and weather conditions. Beanies can be versatile and paired with nearly anything, from a pair of denim booty shorts to an oversized parka. If you’re looking for an accessory piece within your budget and a great stocking stuffer, a beanie is the way to go!

Spotted: Alexander Wang is notorious for showcasing beanies on the runway, in classic colours such as gray and black.
