Although the fall semester has begun, the summertime heat is still around. As Fashionistas we take this opportunity to dress for the weather in sundresses, shorts and flowy tops. Such simple garments can cause an outfit to seem bland, unless executed in the right way. That is why I am so excited for this week’s Fashionista!
She took a simple pair of lace shorts and paired them with an oversized chiffon button down to have contrasting textures. But what really completes this Fashionista’s look are her accessories. She put together a wonderful little arm party, featuring some bracelets with crystals and popular Alex and Ani bangles. She tops off her party with a gold Michael Kors watch. She chose to pair the outfit with a simple pair of black boots, and her Michael Kors bag is really a great addition. The studs on the bag tie in the metal bangles and also add a bit of edge, which we also get from the boots. Finally, she adds Dolce&Gabbana oversized sunglasses (here is a link to some similar ones) to shield her eyes from the New York City sunlight.
Any Fashionista can pull a simple outfit like this together from their closet. All you need is a cute pair of shorts, an oversized shirt and some fun bangles. I am a fan of coming across bracelets in small boutiques. To add contrast, pair shorts and the calf length boots give a nice touch to the outfit. The splash of color that comes from the shirt really livens up the outfit for fall and colors in the bangles add some flare and tie together the peach from the shirt.
My challenge for you is to go in your closet and pick an oversized shirt, (it can be denim, chiffon or any fabric) and layer it with some fun shorts and a tank. This can be a quick outfit for class in the early semester or a fun weekend look. Don’t be afraid to pile on some bracelets, you can do matching or different metals. And simply pair the look with your favorite bag and you’ll be good to go. Any Fashionista can put these simple items together from their own wardrobe and walk out of the dorm looking flawless.
Spotted: Try some fun layering with blue shades from alice + olivia’s spring 2013 ready-to-wear show. Although it is a skirt, it offers some fun contrasting hemlines and an oversized coat to top it off. This look would be perfect for the end of the summer months.
