The most interesting thing about personal style is being able to take the same shirt, pants and shoes that everyone else has access to and still finding a way to make your outfit different. Whether one’s personal style is subtle or more obvious, it’s important to find different ways to be an individual in the way you dress — one of the best ways being through accessories.
Layering with a cute light sweater and chunky camo jacket, this casual chic look fits perfectly with combat boots and is still comfortable enough to sit through a lecture and two labs without squirming in your seat. However, this Fashionista truly caught my eye once I noticed her cross-culture fashion influence. Her cross body bag adds a fun pop of color and interest to her outfit with the mixed print. The bag was a gift from Anthropologie and one of her favorite accessories. The vibrant beading of her bag and her camo print jacket actually seem to complement each other. The woven print doesn’t read as “typically tribal”, which I also liked because it was a trend that, in my opinion, was overdone last spring/summer.
Once I stopped her to get a picture I also noticed her bracelets that matched her tribal, African influence styling. The chunky nature works well with her jacket and smaller delicate jewelry like her necklace. Interested, I asked more about them as I was taking the pictures. Each bracelet was made from animal bone and completely unique. Gotta love a statement piece with a story behind it!
This Fashionista’s ability to hone in on a different culture’s influence is so spot-on and gives a subtle flair to her outfit and personal style. This jewelry and handbag also gives a more feminine feeling to her chunky boots and boxy fit jacket. An interesting and easy way to transform a more basic and neutral outfit is taking inspiration in your accessories from different cultures whether it be a Chinese influenced ornamental jade necklace or a tribal bracelet like this Fashionista’s.
