One day it’s hot outside, the next day it’s cold and the day after that it’s somewhere in between. As Fashionistas, we can’t regulate the weather, but we can control what we wear. We can leave our houses in the frigid morning with a parka and by lunchtime everyone’s wearing short sleeves. It can be a slight struggle at times—sweating in cashmere or wearing rain boots when it’s sunny and dry—but certain accessories can help us through those tough fashion moments.
Who says a denim vest is only meant for western themed parties, and who says puffy vests belong only on the ski slopes? And who says we can’t wear our mom’s old clothes and still look fashionable? Not me and not this week’s Fashionista. I spotted her in this chic outfit with a unique looking vest. And guess what: the vest was her mom’s! I would never be able to tell it came from the ’80s by the way she styled it. Her silk cream top and brown heeled leather boots do a great job of updating this vintage accessory. Not to mention the colored ends of her hair, which are totally in line with current festival fashion. The Fashionista’s black skinny jeans and black leather cross-body bag dress the look up a bit. With some dark eye makeup and a long gold necklace, this outfit could be worn for a night out as well.
That is why I love vests. They are so easy to throw on over a simple outfit. Try to picture this Fashionista’s ensemble without the vest. Still chic, but not as refreshing. Vests add depth and bring exhausted looks up to date. And of course, they add another layer of warmth when you’re not quite sure how the weather will play out.
Spotted: Many different kinds of vests were seen in a few of Balenciaga‘s runway shows.
