As you can see from the photo of this Fashionista, spring still seems nowhere in sight. The graying mountains of dirty snow flanking the roads and pathways throughout campus, weathermen warnings of a second polar vortex and the sea of parkas and snow boots seen scurrying to get out of the cold between classes are testaments to this. Though March is just around the corner, this endless winter can make one forget that spring is technically less than a month away.
Yet, when I ran into this Fashionista, the temperatures outside were forgiving enough to allow her photos to be taken sans jacket. But that’s not the hint of spring most evident here. Rather, her chic floral lace-up boots offered a welcome reminder of the warmer months to come without sacrificing warmth and comfort. These Steve Madden boots especially popped against her all-black ensemble, which also highlighted the shoulder studs adorning her sweater and simple silver necklace and classic pearls.
What is most compelling about this Fashionista’s look is that it remains seasonally appropriate while showcasing a great juxtaposition between the femininity of her delicate jewelry and floral shoe pattern with a toughened up black palette and shoulder stud details. Her boots in particular create a great contrast with a light floral design featured against a traditional lace-up combat silhouette. Her silver necklace and pearl earrings are timeless and season-less accessories that immediately add sophistication to her outfit without detracting from its other elements.
Spotted: Florals were all over Prabal Gurung’s spring 2012 ready-to-wear runway.
