Most girls have an idea of what a perfect gentleman should be. Someone who opens doors and buys you roses; someone who pulls your chair out for you and charms your mother; someone who is exactly like Ryan Gosling in the Notebook. For me, I always liked the idea of the old fashioned English gentleman. Someone with a charming accent who is a classy and snappy dresser, and enjoys a good cup of tea and a rousing game of cricket. So when I saw this week’s Fashionisto, all dressed to the nines for class, I couldn’t help but be excited!
He is most definitely was dressing to impress, in a lovely navy H&M blazer and Ted Baker trousers and shirt. The shirt is what steals the show in this outfit. Not only does a crisp, fresh shirt bring a quality of sophistication to this week’s gentleman, but the precise detailing of the shirt with its dark coral coloured stripes and small blue pattern of, what appears to be, blue beans, adds a modern day twist on the standards of the male British aesthete. But personally, what I think adds the touch of old world charm to this Fashionisto’s get up is his Massimo Dutti watch. Now I know that in my mind, an old school gent should have a pocket watch and a top hat, but it’s really refreshing to see a student wear a wristwatch, not to mention a vintage-style one.
So guys, if you are trying to spruce up for springtime and want to do the gentlemanly thing, the key to this look is the shirt and the watch. I really like the Ted Baker shirt, so for another option I would try a blue shirt with a raindrop pattern. If you want to splurge, this beige and caramel coloured Burberry shirt exudes elegance. They key to the shirt is to find a cool pattern, but remember subtlety is important. As it is the classic British design house, its no wonder Burberry also makes some incredible watches, like this classic one. In my opinion this really is the piece de resistance as it doesn’t really matter whether your a gentleman who brings flowers or wears a three piece suit, a proper gentleman knows punctuality is everything so a stylish and classic timepiece is just the thing he needs.
