Happy Friday, Fashionistas! The accessory that I chose to write about this week is a shoe that has been stealing the show on my campus lately. While some might not consider shoes an accessory, Donatella Versace once said that “shoes are the new jewelry.” Though many students opt to stifle their feet in monotone tennis shoes, I am a firm believer in the the potential that shoes have to make a statement and dress up any outfit. A huge trend among SoCal students are equestrian style boots. These boots have remained very popular throughout the fall and winter.
Equestrian boots are very appealing in our area because they are equally as stylish with a pretty short sleeved shirt as they are with a heavier East Coast flannel. They are also versatile with pants, as anything from leggings to jeans to tights can be tucked into them. Throw aside your baggy boyfriend jeans and turn to your more form fitting pants to create a sleek and slim silhouette.
These popular boots were originally worn by the English cavalry in the seventeenth century. They probably never imagined becoming style icons for millions of teenage girls. Like many beautiful things, (think British accents, fun hats, Harry Styles), the mainstream version of this style also came from England when the Duke of Wellington dubbed the boots “Wellington boots” to be worn for hunting and horseback rides.
Today’s Fashionista wore hers with dark skinny jeans, creating the signature streamlined look. She complemented this by wearing a looser fitting white Oxford shirt. Not one to skip out on the jewelry, she layered beaded necklaces for a personal touch.
Equestrian boots guarantee that your outfit will truly be stylish from head to toe. Take some inspiration from this week’s stylish Fashionista and let your shoes take the spotlight this week!
