ACCESSORIES REPORT: A Bold Blend

Accessories Report

Winters in the Pittsburgh area mean one thing for us northern Fashionistas/os: layers. This Fashionisto makes a brave statement with contrasting colors, patterns and styles. I immediately spotted him out of a large crowd while I was out shopping, and I knew he would be my inspiration for this week’s post.

What I love about his outfit is the mixture of pattern-on-pattern. The focal point is clearly his cozy scarf, paired with an equally patterned sweater. This is an unusual combination, but the pieces complement each other in such a unique and inviting way. Colorful scarves are a signature trend in dreary, chilly winter months. If you want to snag one similar to this Fashionisto’s, check out these scarves by Ralph Lauren or Tommy Hilfiger, and see what you dare to pair them with.

This outfit resembles a preppy style, but dons added boho accessories. His ensemble is the best of both worlds. Mixing tribal patterns and preppy colors is bold, but beautiful. His wrists are far from boring, with prayer beads on his right and a Timex watch on his left. I also love how he paired masculine boots with a slimmer-fitting pant. This outfit is a great juxtaposition, which is important in order to stick out in the fashion world.

To me, the added accessories make the outfit incredibly unique. We have seen it many times before: subdued colors with one piece of popping, patterned attire. However, it is time to think outside the box. Don’t be afraid to be bold and mix two ornate pieces together, it makes an outfit all the more playful and fun.

Spotted: The ever-so-classic Chanel illustrated this trend of patterned scarves on patterned sweaters in its fall 2012/13 ready-to-wear show, and again in their pre-fall 2013 collection.
