I seem to find myself referencing films in a lot of my articles. That’s probably because I love movies just as much as I love fashion. Luckily, the two go hand in hand. When I spotted this week’s Fashionisto, I was immediately reminded of Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. He wasn’t necessarily dressed like an ‘80s Wall Street businessman, but he was wearing a very familiar band T-shirt that gets mentioned throughout the film.
“Do you like Huey Lewis and the News?” Bateman asks this question while he’s preparing to make dangerous moves on fellow Wall Streeter, Paul Allen. It’s become one of the most quotable lines from the movie, and I find my friends and I using it to defer awkward situations. American Psycho is really a great film that has some seriously stylish characters.
If you want to get this week’s Fashionisto’s relaxed look, start out with an awesome band T-shirt. I love looking for vintage ones at thrift stores. It’s so satisfying to find something rare at a low price. Next, layer a faded Levi Brand Jeans denim shirt on top. Pair the layered tops with the olive green Levi Brand Jeans 505 5-Pocket Commuter Pant from Urban Outfitters. Finish everything off with some sneakers and tortoise shell Ray-Ban Wayfarers.
I know I’ve said this before, but don’t be afraid to draw inspiration from film. People watching and reading books and magazines are also good ways to stimulate innovative style. You can honestly get your creative juices flowing from doing just about anything. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go return some video tapes.
