STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Accessorized Yet Personalized

Style Advice of the Week

I spotted this week’s Fashionista while shopping at the Cambridge branch of fashion retailer LF and was struck by her seemingly effortless elegance. What I love most about her ensemble is the way she manages to keep up with the latest trends in an incredibly natural, comfortable way. She starts off with a pair of Aéropostale black jeans and and pairs them with a high-low black LF tank. She scored her bright blue hankerchief, used as a headband, at a local arts-and-crafts store. Her large, dangly tribal earrings and a long victorian-style necklace are eclectic and complement the black clothing. My favorite part of her outfit is the pair of edgy, studded Sam Edelman sneakers that give the look a personal spin and really bring the whole outfit together.

This week’s style advice is about how to rock bold accessories. Have you ever bought a beautiful headband or crazy bangle but find it sitting in your dresser unused? If you just stick to simple clothing, either black on black or dark jeans, you can easily pair your outfit with a few bold pieces. Some of my favorite accessory trends this season are the scarf headband, available in a plethora of fun colors and prints at Amerian Apparel, tribal jewelry, like this long pendant and these beautiful scarves from Anthropologie.

To me, fashion is a means of self-expression. It is a way to reflect to the world something about our taste, personality and interests. Accessories are a great way to add a personal touch. Pair together thrifted jewlery finds, paint a silk scarf with your favorite scene or even try out your grandfather's watch. Use your apparel to say something more about who your are.
