WHAT TO WEAR: Winter

March may finally be here, but winter has come back with a vengeance. Just when we thought maybe the sun might start to show its bright, shining face a little bit more, temperatures approaching Polar Vortex status came out of nowhere and threw us all for a very cold loop. If, like me, you were already getting excited about planning your early spring outfits, this turn of events probably made you throw up your hands in frustration and succumb to your warmest pair of ratty sweatpants in defeat. Do not be discouraged—this Fashionista is here to show you that it’s possible to make a sartorial comeback as strong the Kentucky Snowpocalypse of 2015.

While it’s easy to get tired of your winter wardrobe by the end of the season, there are a few tricks to help you bring back the excitement. With a long tunic and a pair of leggings, this Fashionista’s outfit provides a perfect example of how to mix it up when the going gets tough. Tired of jeans? Pull on some snazzy leather pants. Sweaters boring you? Throw a dress over your trousers. By switching up small elements of your outfit, you can create a whole new look that will have you looking fabulous—and won’t leave you shivering.

Although accessories are often the last addition to an outfit, they should almost always be first during the winter. Clothes are great when it’s cold, but smaller details like hats and scarves are what truly make the difference between being cold and getting hypothermia. This Fashionista knew the importance of those small details, and ensured that her outfit had every protection possible. Pulling her ensemble together with a wide-brimmed hat, a soft black scarf and knee-high boots, she looks put together and ready for any temperatures that come her way.

Old Man Winter may have returned, but that isn’t an excuse to give up on style. By putting a new spin on old classics, it’s easy to mix up your outfit and escape the inevitable wardrobe boredom that comes with cold weather.

One Simple Change: Braving the cold for a night out with friends? Replace the knee-high boots for a pair of colorful booties—you’ll add a pop to your outfit and while staying warm enough to keep the color in your toes.
