10 Ways to "Walk" Into The New Semester In Style

January 10th, 2017 at 2:00am

Shoe trends may come and go, but with the start of the new year we can definitely expect to see a few new shoe trends gaining some popularity. These killer shoes will take you from day to night all winter long. So consider this your go-to guide for inspiration on how to style 2017’s biggest shoe trends.

1—LEATHER BOOTIES

These shoes are the perfect year round shoe. They’re adorable with rolled up or scrunched pants or jeans and provide you the warmth and comfort of a closed-toe shoe without the bulkiness of a higher boot. These sleek boots can even be worn with a skirt or dress for a less casual look, good for date night or the office! Be on the lookout for leather booties in vibrant shades and animal prints this spring.

2—POINTED TOE

Adding a pointed toe to any shoe will add just the right amount of edge for any occasion, whether it’s heading to class or heading to hang out with your #gurugang.

3—VELVET BOOTIE

Winter calls for thicker fabrics and velvet is one the must-have trends this seasons. These shoes are extremely versatile and the chunky, block heel makes them super comfortable. Try them in an accent color and pair them with ripped denim for a chic look for class, or throw on a dress or skirt for date night or a night out!

4. OVER-THE-KNEE BOOT

Chances are, on any given day/night you can walk outside and see someone rocking the over the knee boot trend this season. With their thick material and height, they’re perfect for keeping your legs and feet warm while elongating the legs. Suede and leather are the most common fabrics found in over the knee boots and come in a variety of options and styles, like lace up detailing. These boots provide the ultimate polished look whether your pairing them over jeans or pants for a more casual look, or wearing them with a dress, perfect for a night out with friends. If you’re on the shorter side, try opting for a pair that hits right above the knee to help maximize your thigh length in order to make you look taller. If you’re naturally tall, you don’t really have to worry about which length to get; try opting for a shorter length for a more casual look and taller styles for a more glamorous, Kardashian inspired look.

5—VELVET SNEAKERS

Velvet is definitely making a statement this season, emerging in everything from dresses to shoes to jackets. Velvet sneakers are the perfect mix of comfort and this chic trend; they add the ultimate cool factor to jeans, minis, maxis, and shorts.

6—LUCITE HEEL AKA “THE NOTHING SHOE”

Made popular by Kim Kardashian West’s beloved Yeezy lucite heel, this minimalistic “nothing shoe” is making its rounds in the new year with its clear heel that leaves little to the imagination. Made out of perspex or lucite (types of acrylic glass), this shoe definitely makes a statement. Pair them with jeans for a more casual look or channel your inner Kim, and throw on your sexiest body-con dress for a fierce going out look. These shoes are versatile and effortless and add the perfect amount of sass to any outfit.

7—METALLIC SHOES

The metallic shoe trend has made an appearance in runway shows like Chanel and Tommy Hilfiger. Trendy metallic hues like gold, silvers, and coppers are sweeping us off our feet and taking over in 2017. They are the ultimate statement piece and work with almost any outfit or occasion.

8—CLASSIC SNEAKERS

A pair of classic sneakers like Adidas Superstars, Stan Smiths, or Converse are a staple for every Fashionista/o’s wardrobe. They are the ultimate comfort shoe and are my go-to shoe for long days on campus or lots of walking around.

9—SHOES WITH SOCKS

The shoe and sock combo might not be the first trend you think of in 2017, but it is definitely popular on runways this season. Pairing light socks with booties and strappy heels or sandals is the modern day version of when our parents used to dress us up for in our white scrunched socks.

10—Prints and Patterns

2017 will bring us everything from animal prints like snakeskin and cheetah to embroidered florals. Textures, like reptile skin lookalikes, are a big thing this season and are the perfect statement piece for casual outfits or with an all black leather look. Floral prints and embroidery provide unique and feminine detailing on footwear. Similar to the leather booties, this style is a versatile statement piece that can be easily worn day to night.
